Airport darling of international jet set
The new airport, widely attacked over the chaos that surrounded its opening last year, has received glowing praise from international publications.
The US magazine Travel & Leisure has given the airport its annual critics' choice award.
'Now that the airport is past some initial hitches, our clients love it,' the January issue reports. 'Hong Kong now has one of the world's premier airports.
'Chek Lap Kok is a streamlined space so attractive, so easy, so filled with natural light, that it just might lead travellers back to the city.' The Canada-based aviation magazine Wings said all was now running well and there was no doubt the billions of dollars the airport cost was money well spent.
Meanwhile, more than 100,000 passengers used the airport on December 27, setting a record.
An extra 250 flights in the last two weeks of the year helped push passenger numbers past 80,000 a day.
