THE abolition of the 30 per cent duty on cosmetics announced by the Financial Secretary in this year's Budget could only be translated into a small percentage reduction in retail prices, the Government said. Duty on cosmetic products was based on the imported price of the products or, in the case of locally manufactured cosmetics, on the production value, and not on the retail prices.
