Staff at ATV to form a union
ATV staff agreed last night to form a union representing television production and broadcasting workers.
The decision follows the company's scrapping of fixed year-end bonuses.
The Confederation of Trade Unions, which met ATV staff last night, said morale at the station was low.
Workers were disappointed they had not been consulted about the cut, a spokesman said.
The union will attempt to meet management on Thursday.
Employees will be urged to disagree with the cut and sign authorisation letters for the union to negotiate on their behalf.
The confederation said unions and their representatives had special protection under the labour laws.
It was also a criminal offence for management to stop the activities of unions.
ATV has announced it will abandon fixed year-end bonuses this year, pegging them instead to individual and company performance.
