Records and gold medals fall to HK

Hong Kong have reaped a golden harvest at the FESPIC Games in Bangkok, winning 18 gold medals so far and setting two world records in the process.

The SAR team dominated the fencing competition, winning gold medals in the men's Category A individual and team foil events and the Category A epee and Category B epee individual events.

Four-time Atlanta Paralympic gold medallist fencer Ben Cheung Wai-leung won the Category A epee individual event but lost the individual foil title to teammate Fung Ying-ki.

The Category B epee individual gold was won by Chiu Man-sia, who beat teammate Chung Ting-ching in the final.

Chan Fu-sang set a world record in the 100 metres with a time of 11.12 seconds and there was another world mark set by teenager So Wa-wai, who won the men's long jump event, beating the previous world mark by 22 centimetres with a leap of 5.20 metres.

Veteran wheelchair athlete Lee Kwok-yin captured the men's javelin gold, while Cheung Yiu-cheung won gold in the men's 100 metres (CP7).

There were also gold medals won by Hong Kong in the women's table tennis team competition.

'Overall, our results were expected but it was encouraging to see good performances from Fung Ying-ki, who showed maturity to win gold in fencing,' said Hong Kong coach Cheng Siu-hong.
