Bible art inspires contest
Israel is launching a worldwide competition to find top young illustrators.
Using Bible stories for inspiration, Hong Kong's budding artists are being invited to tap their imagination and try to win a one-week trip to Israel.
Locally, the 'Children of the World Illustrate the Bible' drawing competition is organised by the Consulate General of Israel.
The competition is to celebrate 2000 years of the Common Era and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel.
The consulate is looking for a representative full of creativ ity to represent Hong Kong in the international competition, which will be held in Jerusalem at the end of the year.
Entries should be related to stories in the Old or New Testaments and be no larger than 50 x 35 centimetres.
The wide range of topics for artists includes Moses parting the Red Sea, Jonah being swallowed by a giant fish and the birth of Jesus Christ.
The competition has three age groups: eight to 10, over-10 to 13, and over-13 to 16.
One overall winner will be awarded a week-long trip to Israel in December.
Israeli Consul General Uri Halfon said the competition could strengthen relations between the children of the world.
' This meaningful and interesting activity can open a window in the children's world and give them an opportunity to express their imagination and inspiration from the Bible,' he said.
Mr Halfon also called on parents and principals to encourage young artists to take part in the competition.
The closing date for competition entries is May 31.
