Parents should think carefully

I refer to the article headlined, 'A crying shame', which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on January 2.

I cannot believe there are so many parents who have given up their children, but some do.

Sometimes, it is because the mother is a teenager, who has conceived as a result of a sexual attack. That is understandable.

However, sometimes, parents abandon their babies because the babies are handicapped.

I think it is the duty of such parents, even though they are faced with tremendous pressure, to care for and to love their own children, whatever obstacles they face.

When children are abandoned, it causes social problems and puts a great deal of pressure on a government.
