Golfer, 87, fights off attacker
An 87-year-old golfer told yesterday how he ended up in hospital after fighting off an attacker who pounced from the back seat of his car.
Bill Newport was about to pull out of the golf club car park at Shek O on Friday night when a hand grabbed his neck from behind.
'I said, 'What the hell are you doing here? Shut up and get the hell out of here',' Mr Newport recalled yesterday.
'It was a big surprise - the Shek O Golf Club of all places.' The stranger did not produce a weapon or even speak to Mr Newport, but jumped out of the car as it started rolling back during the scuffle.
Mr Newport was still in the car when it went over a kerb and into a tree.
He suffered nerve damage in his left arm and spent four nights in Adventist Hospital.
