Columnist addresses AustCham

Controversial political journalist George Negus will be guest of honour at the Australian business community's Australia Day lunch at the Grand Hyatt.

The lunch will be organised by the Australian Chamber of Commerce (AustCham) and Telstra and the topic of his speech will be 'Australian Daze - Re-inventing Australia in the New World Disorder'.

AustCham chairman Matthew Cheng said: 'Australia Day is for appreciating our nation's heritage and history - and a day to instil in all Australians, whatever their origins, a desire to contribute to Australia's future.

'It's a day for giving thanks to Australia's pioneers, from more than 160 nationalities across the globe, and all who have contributed to what Australia is today.' Since it was founded 11 years ago, AustCham has become the largest overseas Australian chamber and one of the biggest in Hong Kong.

The chamber now includes more than 750 corporate members and represents about 500 locally-based Australian companies that employ more than 200,000 people.
