NZ backs Pill advice

The country at the centre of a row over contraceptive pills said it had no plans to change the advice it gave to users.

The New Zealand Consulate-General said while some oral contraceptives caused a higher death rate than others, 'the cause is still not certain'.

Six New Zealand women died of blood clots caused by four brands of Pill sold over the counter in Hong Kong.

The consulate said three of the six should not have taken the drugs because of health problems and this underlined the need for medical assessment before prescription.
