For his three-hour work day, Joseph Lau Luen-hung may have earned as much as $10.5 million in 1996, according to the Chinese Estates Holdings annual report.
The 1996 report showed the four directors of the companies, including the Lau brothers and two non-executive directors, received directors' emoluments totalling $15 million.
One got $10 million to $10.5 million, another $4 million to $4.5 million, and the other two less than $1 million.
