Fishermen seek loans
Fishermen are calling for government loans to buy hi-tech security equipment to fend off pirate attacks in mainland waters.
The Hong Kong Fishery Alliance arranged a demonstration yesterday of a new alarm system for fishermen.
Alliance spokesman To Kwong-biu said the system was linked to the mainland border defence authorities. Fishermen on vessels installed with the system could speak to mainland officers or press a button so that officers could trace the location of their vessels.
Mr To said the Agriculture and Fisheries Department agreed in principle to loans but had yet to work out details of the allocation.
