Embattled defender Dimitre Kalkanov to leave Instant-Dict and return home

Embattled defender Dimitre Kalkanov will leave Instant-Dict and return home after next week's Carlsberg Cup Lunar New Year tournament, writes Unus Alladin.

Kalkanov reached an agreement with Instant-Dict officials yesterday to end his association with the champions, but the Hong Kong Footballer of the Year said he had no immediate plans to join another local club.

'I'm returning to Bulgaria later this month after the Carlsberg Cup. Hopefully, I can find a club in Bulgaria. I don't want to play for a Hong Kong club this season because I don't want to give the impression that I am leaving Instant-Dict to join another local club,' said Kalkanov.

The 32-year-old former Bulgarian youth international ended an unhappy two-year spell with the champions just days after he was suspended indefinitely by the club for 'disciplinary reasons'.

Kalkanov had always wanted to leave Instant-Dict after plans to join Happy Valley late last season were scuppered when the Dickies refused to release him from his contract.

Instant-Dict's Ken Ng said: 'It was an amicable agreement.'
