Top Chinese player Hao Haidong was yesterday banned for a year by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for spitting at a linesman.

Hao - who has been linked with a move to a club in England - was also fined US$2,000 for spitting at the official during the Asian Games in December.

China's English coach, Bob Houghton, was fined US$2,000 for misconduct towards a linesman and the match co-ordinator during the Bangkok tournament.

Hao, who has a notoriously bad temper, scored twice as Chinese champions Dalian salvaged a 2-2 draw against South Korea's Pusan in the quarter-finals of the Asian Club Championship in Chongqing on Wednesday.

The AFC disciplinary committee said after the meeting that the ban would take effect immediately.
