US casino sues HK woman for $3.1m

A Las Vegas casino filed a High Court writ yesterday to claim more than US$413,000 (HK$3.1 million) from a Hong Kong woman.

Lee Wai-kuen is being sued for more than US$350,000 allegedly owed to the Las Vegas MGM Grand Hotel Inc, plus interest. The company claims she opened a credit line between January 27 and 30 last year while patronising the hotel.

She used the money to buy gambling chips worth US$450,000 but never paid back US$350,606, the writ says. The hotel is claiming that amount under state laws enforceable in Hong Kong, plus interest of 18 per cent as allegedly agreed.
