Wrong to single out Filipinos

I REFER to Mr Simon K. Chau's letter headlined, '' 'Vision of joy' so myopic'' (South China Morning Post, April 23), with great frustration and lack of understanding towards his blinkered attitude.

The constant reference to the ''Filipino litterbugs'' angers me greatly. I fully understand his point, and agree that the mess left should not be tolerated. However, please will he note that this is not the only area in the territory with this problem.

Perhaps we should have a look at one of the more beautiful areas, such as Sai Kung.

I visited it the other week and was absolutely disgusted at the litter that had been left at the barbecue pits, and on the beaches. This is a disgrace and should not, and must not be tolerated any longer.

Just as the Filipinos find their leisure in Central on their one and only day off, other members of the community go elsewhere, perhaps to less notable areas.

With regard to the Filipino maids mingling with the local population, perhaps we need to understand their culture (and funds) more prior to making such statements.
