It is truly shameful that Hong Kongers have to endure the horrendously arbitrary decisions made on the minimum salary for domestic helpers.
The bulk of residents cannot afford this luxury, so this subject has no direct consequence. The out-of-touch legislator Jennifer Chow Kit-bing has made this an issue for her and her tai-tai friends. She could have as easily attacked the cost of registering a vehicle, or electricity charges, which would have an impact on the common person.
Hong Kongers should treat this as the petty and embarrassing political decision it is. We should make sure such issues do not define the political landscape and advocates such as Ms Chow get booted from office.
