Why do slugs die when we put salt on them? The slug has a moist skin, so when you sprinkle salt on it, a strong salt solution quickly forms.
This leads to the process of osmosis. In osmosis, fluid from a weaker solution passes through a porous membrane to a stronger solution.
In this case, water is drawn through the skin of the slug into the stronger salt solution outside.
