Rangers beat Motherwell 2-1

All sentiment was put on hold as Rangers thumped two goals past former goalkeeper Andy Goram to beat Motherwell 2-1 and move 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League.

Goram had received a deafening welcome from the 49,483 fans inside Ibrox Stadium - a tribute to his part in Rangers' nine successive league titles.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who was released from Ibrox last summer, underlined why he was so revered by the Rangers fans with an incredible save from Giovanni van Bronckhorst's first-half volley.

But a splendid 31st minute right-foot shot from Rod Wallace - the English striker's 24th goal of the season - finally broke his resistance and put the hosts ahead.

Rangers now have 62 points from 27 games, 13 ahead of Celtic, who were to play away to Aberdeen last night.
