Annoyed over Bruce Lee slur

Bruce Lee

WHO knows what goes through the minds of our Provisional Urban Council members? Ad-lib certainly does not. Recently, councillor Yip Kwok-chung proposed setting up a Bruce Lee memorial but had his proposal slapped down by other councillors. The reason? They said Lee's personal life was 'not good' and would set a bad example for the young ones.

These comments have had the Bruce Lee fan club members up in arms. Of course, our councillors seem to have forgotten that Lee was one of the first Hong Kong people to truly make it as an international star.

Even the United States postal service is thinking of releasing a commemorative stamp of Lee next year - which would make him the first Chinese actor to be featured.

Gorgeous guy THE recent TVB Jade series, Mr Diana, seems to have been quite a hit. The drama starred Gallen Law Kar-leung as a man possessed by a female ghost who went around dressed as a woman - a la Tootsie.

A mobile phone commercial starring Andy Lau Tak-wah has apparently taken its inspiration from this and will feature the Canto-pop idol with a group of models which includes a transvestite and a 'secretary' who is actually a man in drag.

Lau says his secretary is pretty 'gorgeous'.

On the up THERE seems to be no stopping Taiwanese whirlwind Sherry Cheng Huei-mei. The singer is so much in demand that she could not even spare the time to star in Jackie Chan's Gorgeous (the role went to Shu Qi).

Fans in Hong Kong have been clamouring for a proper large-scale concert after the sold-out success of her two shows here last year. Although she was supposed to have returned for some shows in December, she could not fit them into her itinerary.

But there is talk that her managers are negotiating with the Jockey Club to see if she can hold a show at Happy Valley. In the past the Jockey Club has only given permission for charity events, but maybe it will make an exception.
