Luckless Red Zone one to follow with confidence
There is little doubt that the lightly-raced Red Zone would have made it interesting with a little luck in the straight in last night's seventh event.
Red Zone wasn't able to stay in touch with the fast pace set out in front by Grassland Star and as a result was back with the tailenders as the field straightened up for the run home.
As Steven King gathered him up for his late charge he was slightly checked when seeking room down near the fence and the momentum lost could have made all the difference between winning and losing.
When King got him balanced again he absolutely flew down the outside and would have won the race in another few strides. This was only Red Zone's ninth race start and the five-year-old is now right at his top.
David Oughton's Cossack has gained a bit of a reputation for being a non-winner but he is now at a stage where he can take the voluntary demotion into Class Five and his run indicated a win is near.
