US President Bill Clinton has been condemned by some people for Nato's bombing campaign.

However, it is Yugoslavia's President Slobodan Milosevic who should be condemned.

Because of him and his dictatorship, genocide is going on in the middle of Europe.

The Serbs are slaughtering innocent men, women and children. It would be morally wrong to stand by and watch the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo being wiped out and do nothing to stop this human tragedy.

Civilised people should not allow this catastrophe to happen. When all efforts to use political means prove to be impossible, military action is unavoidable.

Nato is acting against a mad Greater Serbia which is trying to eliminate another race. Some critics have said that Nato is acting without the consent of the UN. But, there was never any chance of Russia and China supporting a resolution in the Security Council that backed Nato action.

Both Russia and China are jealous of US power and of the West. Secondly, Russia, China and Yugoslavia are all communist countries.

Also, the US Government condemned China's human rights policy at last month's UN Human Rights Commission meeting in Geneva which angered China.

The Russians and the Chinese do not say a word about the cruelty of the Serbs, but instead attack the US and the West unjustly.

Critics of the US complain that its move in Geneva and what is happening in Yugoslavia amount to the same thing - interference in the internal affairs of Yugoslavia and China. They argue that the US has political motives. However, they are missing the point.

The bottom line is that the US acted to save lives and end misery.

There is something universally wrong about unjust imprisonment, denial of human rights, torture, rape, murder, genocide, forced relocation, and other evils.

Given the US political system and its basic values, it is only natural that Americans want to fight against these evils.

Not everyone in Beijing appreciates this. It is nice to know that most people in Washington do.

For the sake of the hundreds of thousands of ethnic Albanians from Kosovo, the US and Nato must win this war.
