Telford killer may be executed on Tuesday

A MAINLAND fung shui master sentenced to death in Guangdong for the cyanide killings of three women and two girls in Telford Gardens last year is expected to be executed on Tuesday.

Li Yuhui, 46, filed an appeal last month after the Shantou City Intermediate People's Court found him guilty of the murders and of stealing $1.2 million from the women on July 21 last year.

His mistress, Yen Li, 32, is facing trial for allegedly helping him handle the stolen money.

Li's lawyers pointed to unidentified fingerprints at the crime scene that Li claimed could belong to a Zen follower he said was the mastermind behind the murders.

But it is understood that his appeal has been rejected and he will be notified of the decision on Tuesday.

Court officials declined to comment on Li's case but said those convicted were usually executed on the same day.

'That's the practice, and the chance of a successful appeal is slim,' a court official said.

There are two execution grounds in the city.

His lawyers said last week that Li had asked to see his mother, in her 80s, and his two sons but the plea was rejected at the time.

He is, however, expected to be allowed to see them on Tuesday.

Li's case and the 'Big Spender' trial have put pressure on the SAR and mainland governments to set up formal arrangements over the exchange of suspects.
