Cricket plea

I have seen numerous letters in these columns in the past few days appealing to ESPN/Star to show next month's cricket World Cup live.

All those viewers still holding out hope that that will happen are in for a disappointment as the company has already released its schedules for May and all we will get in Hong Kong are hourly highlights of every game.

If Star TV could broadcast the last two cups (in 1992 and 1996) live then why deprive fans in this region this time round? If anything, the number of people watching and playing cricket has increased.

ESPN shows programmes such as Racehorse Digest and marathons, live. Why couldn't it show live cricket? It is more interesting than watching people and horses run.

The least ESPN/Star could do is to show the round of Super Six in the World Cup, followed by the semi-finals and the final, live. These take place in June.

I know that my request is likely to fall on deaf ears, but I still think ESPN/Star should respond to the letters that have appeared on this subject.
