Airy name to remain

The Government does not plan to change the Chinese name for Government House despite criticism.

Information Co-ordinator Stephen Lam Sui-lung said: 'We have recognised public opinion. But we do not have another choice.' Mr Lam said Tung Chee-hwa had accepted the name 'Chi Lo', proposed by a panel of art, architecture and government experts.

'Chi' was said to mean 'purple air from the east' and 'lo' is a humble cottage.

Legislators said the name was weird.
