Green groups hit the streets of Causeway Bay and Central on 'Earth Day' yesterday to campaign for cleaner air.
Friends of the Earth members and volunteers marched through Causeway Bay at lunchtime with banners and distributed leaflets to drivers asking them to 'stop idling engines' in a bid to reduce air pollution.
'Many drivers seem unaware of the seriousness of the problem,' campaign co-ordinator Dr Cheng Luk-ki said.
'However, after explaining to them the effects of idling engines on their and other people's health, they fully embraced our message.' Education was important, but the practice should still banned, she said.
