Promos not from Cable

I refer to the letter from your correspondent headlined, 'Puzzled by Putonghua trailers' (South China Morning Post, April 15).

'Name And Address Supplied' wondered what Cable TV was trying to achieve by airing these promos (not trailers) for the programmes on the National Geographic Channel in Mandarin.

Actually, Cable TV does not produce these promos. They are produced by the National Geographic Channel itself and they are in Mandarin, because they are targeted at Taiwanese audiences.

Hong Kong audiences get to watch the so-called 'stray' and intercepted satellite signals of the channel, re-broadcast locally and exclusively by Cable TV.

By the way, in Taiwan, this channel is available all the time, not only on weekends.

Your correspondent should be glad, as I am, that the shows themselves have not been dubbed.
