A man who tried to help mainlanders get to Canada with forged passports was jailed for four months yesterday.

Yan Ting-fai, 44, admitted knowing the travel documents were false when he escorted the mainlanders at Chek Lap Kok airport in February.

Three mainland citizens used their genuine passports to enter Hong Kong through Lowu on February 2, Western Court was told.

Three days later Yan escorted them to the airport and helped one to check in for a flight to Vancouver via Japan using a forged British National (Overseas) passport.

When that succeeded, he took the other two mainlanders through the check-in facilities.

But an airline worker was suspicious of the passports when they tried to board the flight and called in immigration officers, who found the photographs on the documents had been switched.

Yan admitted a charge of possessing a forged travel document.
