PTA to help nurture responsible citizens

Carmel Secondary School has set up a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) with the aim of providing a better learning environment for its students.

The ceremony kicked off with performances by the school's concert band and junior and senior choirs. The winners in the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival also displayed their talents in front of the large gathering.

In his welcome speech school supervisor Hui Yin-fat outlined the PTA's goals and praised the students for their recent accomplishments. Mr Hui also commended the PTA preparatory committee, comprising 11 parents and three teachers, who were presented souvenirs in appreciation of their hard work.

School alumni Yung Shun- koo, who was the guest-of-honour, gave a thought-provoking speech on how to tackle adversity. Mr Yung said the key was a positive attitude, strong belief and Christ's guidance.

The PTA constitution was passed unanimously and the highlight of the event was the introduction of the committee members who pledged their wholehearted support for the newly-established association.

The ceremony was followed by a reception in the play ground, where the PTA members chatted and exchanged their views in a relaxing atmosphere.

Everyone agreed that the PTA would help the school nurture more responsible citizens.
