Three legislators have joined a campaign on the abode issue calling on the Government to seek reinterpretation of the Basic Law by Beijing.
They are organising publication of a joint statement calling on the administration to seek a reinterpretation by the National People's Congress Standing Committee.
Ma Fung-kwok, Ng Ching-fai and Choy So-yuk are among a group of 30 campaign organisers seeking more sponsors for newspaper advertisements scheduled to appear next Wednesday.
In a letter sent to friends yesterday, they said: 'Faced with a serious social crisis, we, as middle class, should show the spirit of commitment, come out and bravely express our views in order to protect overall and middle-class interest.' A draft statement said Hong Kong would face grave difficulties even if a portion of the first group of 700,000 people were to enter. 'We even doubt whether Hong Kong is still a place that belongs to us,' it said.
