HONGKONG (May 12): UNITED States Secretary for Commerce Robert Mosbacher intervened in Hong Kong's cable television battle on behalf of a consortium led by Wharf Holdings, that includes American giant US West.

The approach was made to the Governor, Sir David Wilson, according to sources. The call was met with a rebuff, a Hong Kong official said.

'It was a rather acerbic telephone call,' the official said. 'Mosbacher said that he hoped American interests would not be 'discriminated against', and then discussed US West and Hong Kong Cable Communication.'
