Designing a prize-winning carpet is not a simple task, but a carpet design competition attracted more than 1,400 entries.

Tai Ping Carpets organised the competition for students last November.

Participants had to design a carpet on the theme of 'Ocean' or 'Horoscope'.

The organisers said the standard of entries was high and the carpet designs were creative as well as practical.

The award presentation ceremony was held at the Tai Ping showroom in Causeway Bay.

Winners, competition judges, teachers, prin cipals and relatives of the winners attended the ceremony.

First prize winners Vincent Yam Wing-sun (se nior section) and Kwok Hau-ling (junior section) each won a custom-made rug replicating their de signs, and round-trip tickets for two to New Zea land with accommodation.
