Novel change for cover girl Cindy

If Helen of Troy's face could launch a thousand ships, then Cindy Guyer has the looks to launch just as many love stories.

In fact, the actress has more than 2,500 cover paintings and photographs for romantic novels to her credit.

Cindy visited Hong Kong recently to promote a US TV series, Martial Law, in which she appears alongside Sammo Hung. She is probably best known in Hong Kong as the 'Goddess of Love' - Playboy's description of her in its Valentine's Day edition.

Her career as a cover girl began when she was a mere 15 years old . . . posing for a Nancy Drew novel.

Having sat for her first romance novel cover two years later, Cindy describes the books as 'a fantasy - mindless and fluffy reading'.

Posing for Playboy was Cindy's way of celebrating her 30th birthday. She says the photos weren't a show-all pictorial but a series depicting romantic ladies through the ages, such as queens Guinevere and Marie Antoinette.

'In America it's cool now to be in Playboy. People are not so uptight about their bodies. It was definitely the coolest thing I have done.' And while everybody eventually found out about the magazine pictures, it was her mother whom Cindy told last. 'She wasn't very happy about it, but then again she's from a different generation.' So does the Goddess of Love have any advice on romance? 'Communication is vital in any romantic relationship,' she says. 'You've got to keep the romance and passion alive, even after you have children. People who have been married for a long time tend to forget this. Ultimately your partner has to be your best friend.' So who would be Cindy's perfect match? 'The guy who makes me laugh always gets a date,' she says.
