A lot of things have been going on in the world related to the new millennium. There have been announcements in golf, that 'this is the last PGA match in the 20th century', or 'this will be the last Hong Kong International School prom in this millennium.' I addressed the question to my father about when the new century and millennium actually begin. He said January 1, 2001, even though a lot of people incorrectly think it is 2000.

If counted backwards, the first year was year one. There was no year zero. So, 1,000 years from that has to be 1001, right? Can anyone confirm if this is true? When exactly does the new millennium begin? MATTHEW BAILEY Mid-Levels
