P&O leads register of HK flag tonnage

P&O is the largest operator of Hongkong-flagged tonnage, with 16 of its vessels of 720,000 gross tonnes making up 10 per cent of the Hongkong register.

According to a P&O Worldwide report, these include seven bulk carriers owned or bare-boat chartered by P&O Bulk Carriers, with two more on order.

The carrier also has long-term time charters with purchase options on five bulk carriers from HK owners.

P&O Containers' fleet includes five ships registered in Hongkong.

The line and its subsidiaries offer Hongkong exporters direct services to Europe, the Red Sea, the Middle East Gulf, Sri Lanka, the Indian sub-continent, most countries in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The carrier is also the largest shipper of containers from Hongkong.

Ships of P&O Cruises from the UK, Princess Cruises from the United States, and P&O Holidays from Australia all cruise in Asian waters.

The line also runs a specialist cruise service which operates vessels around the Indonesian islands.
