Unsafe dolls, toy pandas recalled

Parents have been warned to be on the lookout for a batch of dangerous toys from vending machines which Customs chiefs say could cause serious injuries.

Officials have recalled 1,125 toy dolls and pandas and 500 cartoon figures after attachments to them were judged to be dangerous.

The unidentified importers of the toys, two mainland firms, have been fined $7,000 and $4,000 under the Toys and Children's Products Safety Ordinance.

Stores and stallholders which sold the toys had also been sent a written warning.

A chain attached to the doll, the eyes of the panda and the leaves it is eating, and a key-ring fixed to the cartoon figures were deemed unsafe.

There were no known cases of injury resulting from the toys, which sell for $5 each.
