IT, software firms pool efforts

Local information-technology (IT) and software firms are forming an association in an attempt to boost the industry's competitiveness.

The move comes amid a Government drive to transform Hong Kong into a technology hub.

Eight founding members of the Information and Software Industry Association (ISIA) are inviting about 400 local IT and software companies to join.

Excel Consultancy managing director Peggy Chan, one of the founders of the ISIA, said the association was aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the IT and software industry.

The association also intended to promote the standard, recognition and profitability of the industry and to expedite the development of high value-added information and software services in Hong Kong and the region.

'Other IT and software associations are too academic,' Ms Chan said.

'We need to form an association for the sake of the industry' The ISIA is expected to be formally established late this month.
