Simple logic

The very simple logic of Jesse Brown (South China Morning Post, July 10) proves Geoff Alves (Post, June 15) to be absolutely correct.

If 1,999 years come to an end on December 31, 1999, and the second millennium is completed only upon the completion of 2,000 years, then the third millennium must commence on January 1, 2001.
