Perseverance is the key to success
What do you think about English as a subject? Can you understand what the teacher is saying and follow his instructions in your English lessons? About three years ago, I almost gave up on English because I knew that with my poor command of the language I would not be able to pass any quizzes or examinations such as the HKCEE.
Sometimes I was disgusted with myself for my inability to handle two languages - Chinese and English - at the same time.
This situation lasted until I repeated Form Five.
The main problem with my English was that I had a poor memory for vocabulary.
I wanted to tackle this problem as soon as possible, but I did not know how to.
What should I learn first? And who could help me? As I did not want to disappoint my parents, I decided to work much harder on my Eng lish skills. Now, I am studying in Form Seven. I am glad that I can now understand my English lessons. To further improve our language skills, my friend and I talk with our English-speaking teacher during lunch time and after school.
I am proud of my achievement, and feel pleased that I have not wasted my time or let down my family, teachers and classmates.
Finally, I want to tell my classmates: although we are Band Five students, if we work hard, we will succeed. Also, I sincerely thank Mr Chok for teaching me English and answering my questions.
