Restless fans

I have to agree with Harry Chen (letter, South China Morning Post, August 5) about the attitude of Manchester United players and their general indifference towards their fans.

Being a British resident and a follower of football, their behaviour is as familiar as it is reprehensible.

However, Mr Chen may not be aware that there is an English footballer who is lesser known than Beckham et al, but just as spoilt and pampered, who is actually seeking treatment for depression.

Presumably, this is on account of his earning only GBP20,000 a week rather than GBP30,000 or that his mansion is just too small to house himself and his model girlfriend.

Mr Chen can be comforted by the knowledge that increasingly, in Britain at least, the paying public are becoming heartily sick of this whining and we can only pray that before long this will translate into lower attendances and, hopefully, lower players' salaries.
