Rotary chief looks to new generation

As the newly installed district governor of the Rotary Clubs of Hong Kong and Macau, Dipo Sani (above) says one of his biggest challenges will be to attract younger people to join the organisation.

'It seems that young people these days don't have the inclination to join a service organisation like Rotary,' he says.

'Maybe people's priorities changed, but with the new affluence now where younger people are getting richer, I hope the spirit of helping others will return and that younger people will get more involved.' But targeting young people to join Rotary is only one aspect of Dipo's responsibilities.

The bulk of his work will involve fund-raising by the 17,000 members of Rotary's 48 clubs in Hong Kong and Macau.

Last year, the Rotary Clubs donated about one million yuan (HK$936,000) to flood victims on the mainland.
