Tutorial centres

Eight unlicensed tutorial centres reported by parents may face prosecution by the Education Department.

The centres were exposed after the department investigated dozens of complaints about unreasonable fees and unqualified tutors brought to the attention of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation during the summer holidays.

Committee chairman Tik Chi-yuen said the number of unregistered tutorial centres was rising as more students decided to further their studies.

Between last September and the end of July seven centre operators and three tutors were found guilty of malpractice and 15 cases of unlicensed centres were investigated.
