Bangkok proves a draw for GIS man

CAUGHT in customary pose by our alert snapper are three of this town's prominent faces: Hilton GM James Smith beaming from ear to ear; Lady Purves, wife of Hongkong Bank chairman Sir William, with characteristic chin-up; and GIS spinmeister Mark Pinkstone,in the wrong dress code.

The occasion was the Hilton's 30th Anniversary Challenge Cup at Sha Tin, and Mark had just won an all-expenses paid trip to Bangkok in the lucky draw. (Just how do these GIS bods manage to come up trumps every time!) But being the extremely busy man that he is in these Patten-driven times, it will not be easy for Mark to fit Bangkok into his schedule. Besides, as an upright gentleman, it's not the kind of place we believe he'd be readily inclined to visit. So expect the kindly Mark to consider donating his prize to a worthy cause.

Meanwhile, James Smith can offer the well-liked GIS man some compensation by inviting him to join more than 100 of the Hilton staff at Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island today for a vegetarian meal being held as part of the Hilton's anniversary celebrations.

Much healthier than Bangkok, we're sure Mark would agree.
