THREE detectives were detained by the ICAC on suspicion of taking bribes to drop cases against suspected car thieves.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption said a detective senior inspector, detective sergeant and detective constable, none of whom were named, were also accused of offering bribes to a victim to get him to withdraw his complaint.

The three officers were arrested on Friday night in a joint ICAC and police operation which also netted five car theft suspects.

The officers had been investigating the theft of 13 cars and the handling of stolen goods.
