Biancone on Road to first-day spoils
Reclassified griffin Indian Road caught the eye again during yesterday's Sha Tin trackwork session with a scintillating final 400 metres in 21.3 seconds.
The Patrick Biancone-trained youngster is a likely winner on tomorrow's opening fixture.
They don't come home much quicker than that and yesterday's 800-metre hitout in an overall time of 48 flat follows a fluent piece earlier in the week and a quality trial effort last week.
Brian Kan Ping-chee's Mr Winner, successful himself in a trial on Tuesday, could give Indian Road plenty to think about.
Kan asked his second-season private purchase to come through a solid 1,200 metres in 1:7.2 along with recent acquisition The King Of Cloyne and the useful Hornet.
The King Of Cloyne is going great guns as evidenced by a smooth-as-silk trials win, but he has it to do at the weights in the featured HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup for which Hornet also looks tested.
Mr Winner, however, should be suited by 1,200 metres in Class Three and appears ready to give a good account of himself.
Typically, Kan is working his team as hard as ever at this early stage of the season. It is from these searching early-season gallops that his reputation as a 'hard' trainer probably derives.
His English import Mighty And Gold worked through a tough 1,200 metres in 1:13.5 yesterday under new stable jockey Jimmy Quinn.
Mighty And Gold was heavily backed when making a winning debut as a two-year-old and then had only one other run when seemingly disappointing in a conditions race at Yarmouth.
He reportedly pulled up lame that day but, if his trackwork is anything to go by, he is worth keeping a close eye on tomorrow.
