LANTERN DANGERS

Parents were warned of potential dangers in toy lanterns sold for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Of 15 battery-operated plastic and inflatable lanterns, only four met all safety requirements, the council said. Some had either sharp, protruding edges and points which could hurt small children, while others had loose parts which could be swallowed.

Plastic surrounds encasing three lanterns were too thin and posed a suffocation risk, spokesman Lo Chi-kin said.
