$500,000 for Y2K bug 'cure'

Three conmen who claimed the millennium bug could be cured with pills cheated a 46-year-old woman out of $500,000 in Tuen Mun. She was approached by two men outside a restaurant in Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road and asked to guard a bag of tablets.


A third man then appeared and claimed he was looking for medicine to cure the millennium bug. The victim, told that she could make a lot of money, then withdrew $500,000 from her bank and bought the bag, which contained 2,640 stomach pills, police said.
