Man injured in crash after hijacking car

A 42-year-old man was in serious condition last night after a 'car-jacking' ended in a head-on collision at Lion Rock Tunnel.

A taxi first picked up the man at about 10.30am from the KCR's University station.

On Ma On Shan flyover, he distracted the taxi driver, who crashed into the kerb. The man then took the driver's mobile phone and fled into some bushes.

A few minutes later, he flagged down a car on Ma On Shan Road, telling the couple inside he needed a lift to hospital for medical treatment. Once inside, the man grabbed the 38-year-old driver and forced him and his wife to get out.

The suspect then drove towards the tunnel and went through the toll booth without paying before making a U-turn and colliding with another car.

The 44-year-old driver of the other car was also injured.

He and the couple forced out their car were treated at Prince of Wales Hospital and discharged.

The 42-year-old is under arrest.
