Delay on fume fines
Owners of smoky vehicles will be given six months to fix the problem after legislation increasing fines is passed.
The Chief Executive revealed in last month's Policy Address that the fine for diesel vehicles which emit pollutants would rise from $450 to $1,000.
The move would allow commercial vehicle owners and garages time to become familiar with the amended law.
Director of Environment Protection Rob Law expected legislators to pass the amendment early next year and for it to take effect about July.
The Government said it would work with the Vocational Training Council and garages to improve maintenance services.
