What are HK people called?

AS a first-time visitor to this exciting and enterprising territory, there is something that intrigues me.

How do the people who belong to Hongkong describe themselves? Hongkongers or Hongkongians. Both are hard on the tongue.

We know the people who belong to a country derive their identity from the name of their country - Britain - British; China - Chinese; Australia - Australians, and so on.

Merely saying Hongkong people does not give them that specific identity.

Or is there possibly a deeper problem as regards identity? Will someone please clarify? S. SIVANAYAGAM Kowloon
