Union urges removal of Viet boys
Vietnamese illegal immigrants should be removed from a boys' home immediately because they are too aggressive and confrontational, a union demanded yesterday.
Posters were put up at the Social Welfare Department-run Pui Chi Boys' Home in North Point in protest at what the union claims is officials' failure to address the problem.
The Social Workers Assistant Branch of the Hong Kong Chinese Civil Servants' Association said the Correctional Services Department should take responsibility for looking after the Vietnamese boys.
Chairman Lai Wing-shing said the boys, mostly teenagers, were too aggressive. 'They set a very bad example to local boys who are not supposed to be mixed with illegal immigrants,' he said.
The home houses eight Vietnamese boys, along with 25 local boys with records of minor offences such as shoplifting. Under the Immigration Ordinance, the department is responsible for taking care of Vietnamese illegal immigrants under 18.
Mr Lai said the Vietnamese had been bullying the SAR boys.
The Vietnamese had also beaten and locked up a social worker's assistant last month.
A spokeswoman said the department was reviewing the detention of the Vietnamese boys with the Security Bureau, CSD and Immigration Department.
